2018 marks the coldest start to spring I can remember. After barely snowy, but still wet winter, it snowed on the second day of spring. I’m not usually one to rush out into the snow–but if I can take photos, that changes my perspective about the cold stuff.
With the snow prediction looming the day before, there was time to arrange a quick maternity photo session for our snow day. It was cold, of course–but worth it!
Oh how I loved taking these maternity photos! I photographed little Catie Jo when she was born and am so happy that her family is now expecting a baby brother. I look forward to meeting their baby boy for photos when he is born in just a few weeks.
Look at their outfits! I have a small collection of maternity gowns I offer for expecting mamas to wear. This mama went a step above though and found her very own through one of my favorite vendors. Catie girl is always sporting the very best monograms so of course she was wearing an adorable monogrammed dress. Papa was dressed in the most perfect complimentary plaid.
This family has a set of angel twins so it was important to incorporate them in a special way. Pink and purple signify Abby and Brooke, sisters born far too soon at 20 weeks gestation but forever in their family.
If you are looking for a maternity photographer in the Northern Virginia area, I would love to work with you. Maternity photos are best taken at 34-36 weeks gestation. It is important to book your session in your 2nd trimester, to ensure availability. I am currently booking maternity sessions for due dates through April 2017. Please contact me for specific availability.
This session was so much fun and quite literally a breeze. I am beginning to think that 5-6 year old girls are the most cooperative photo subjects, hands down. This little miss brought her mom, dad and baby-sister-to-be along for their photo session. She was so photo ready. Full of twirling in her twirl dress and even had some of her own poses in mind. She basically did my job for me.
I think the highlight for everyone was making the trees snow at the end. Because who doesn’t like falling flower petals. (Unless you have somehow parked your car under one, but let’s keep this post full of whimsy.)
I am so excited for this family to welcome this new little girl. Two things are for sure, she is very loved, and big sis has practiced her baby kisses.
Fun story. I met Natalie at the wedding of two of my very good friends. They were married over the 4th of July holiday weekend a couple years ago. Natalie was their photographer so naturally I introduced myself. Fast forward exactly a year later (this past July) and Natalie and I were doing the exact same thing. She was photographing the wedding of one of my very best friends, I was a guest. I love Natalie’s work so if you have ever asked me for a wedding photographer referral, Natalie would have been on that list.
I was super excited to trade photo sessions with Natalie. She photographed my family this past summer and I photographed her and her husband Walid for their maternity photos. They picked the location and I LOVED the color. It was so fun to work all over Georgetown, especially with the graffiti. Natalie’s work always has bright, bold colors so this was totally her. She and Walid shared that this was one of the places they visited on their first date so it’s only fitting that they have photos here as they prepare to welcome their first baby.
I love that I could capture this special time in life for my brother and sister-in-law. Everyone is so excited for the arrival of their little bundle in a few short weeks. I know I can’t wait to meet the little girl in this belly!

Now here they are about to have their first baby!

This pretty lady lives right next door. It snowed a lot recently and I really really wanted to take snow photos. How cool of this gal to freeze her buns off just so I could be artistic and stuff. Oh, and I really didn’t give her much notice. I really enjoyed capturing something for my neighbor that she otherwise may not have done.
I had such a fun evening photographing this family! They are expecting their second baby boy in just a few short weeks. I just love it when clients have a vision for their photos. This family wanted to incorporate their family heirloom quilt and paper lanterns. I just love the way this setup turned out. I actually feel like I’m not showing the best of the lantern photos and may just have to add more photos to this post later!
