It is such a privilege to take a family’s first photos.  Your baby doesn’t have to be a newborn for me to take your first family photos together either.  When to plan your first pictures with your baby is honestly personal preference.
Yes, of course, newborn sessions are probably my most common age to photograph families with their baby for the first time.  Some families, prefer to wait until their baby has a bit more personality coming through.  Guess what!  I waited until my youngest was 3 months old for our first photos as a family of 4.  I still took her newborn photos as well as photos of my two kids together.  It just took me a little more time to have photos taken of the 4 of us and I will cherish them forever.  Now that she is 18 months old and we are headed for our own fall photo update, it makes me a little nostalgic looking back and realizing just how fast my own baby has grown.
For the S family’s photos, their little guy was about 5 months old and so happy.  He absolutely loved tummy time and even showed off some of his pre-crawling skills.  Taking family photos when your baby is outside of the newborn age has it’s benefits.  At 4 months old, babies notice more of the world around them and begin to interact more.  They start to make eye contact and smile, which is absolutely adorable to photograph.  It is a great milestone to cherish forever, so why not photograph it!?  I also love that we were able to include their family pup, Sandy in these pictures as well.  She is still a puppy so these two will grow up together.
